Our Story

The Sikh Educational Society (SES) which was formed at Lahore in 1937 is the Managing Body of five Colleges and three Schools located at Qadian, Banga and Chadigarh. The Society established Sikh National College, Lahore in 1937-38 and it played a prominent role in providing education and strengthening the freedom movement. Master Tara Singh, Giani Kartar Singh, Sardar Inder Singh (father of S. Baldev Singh) played eminent role in establishing the Sikh National College, whose first Principal, S. Naranjan Singh brother of Master Tara Singh, was an outstanding educationist and national leader.
Sikh National College was re-established at Qadian in 1948 after Partition of India. Another renowned educationist Bawa Harikishan Singh became its Principal and provided impetus for setting up other colleges. S. Gurbachan Singh Bajwa (Minister) played a leading role in the management of this College. By dint of the laudable efforts of S. Harguranad Singh, M.L.A., Sikh National College, Banga was started in 1953 to provide quality education to the rural Doaba region of Punjab.
Gritty initiative and sustained endeavor of S. Bakhshish Singh culminated in the setting up of Sri Guru Gobind Singh College at Chandigarh in 1966. S. Partap Singh Kairon, Chief Minister, Punjab laid the foundation stone of the College building on August 29, 1963. A separate College for girls – Guru Gobind Singh College for Women – started functioning in the year 1973. Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Pharmacy (approved by Pharmacy Council of India and All India Council for Technical Education) commenced teaching in 1982. After the introduction of three- year degree course by the University/ Government, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Collegiate Public School was setup in the year 1992 (affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi). S. Bhola Singh (Engineer), S. Baldev Singh (Defence Minister), S. Kapur Singh (Minister), S. Ajit Singh Sarhadi (Minister, MP, Advocate-General), Jathedar Gurcharan Singh Tohra led the galaxy of management as President at different times in the past. S. Gurdial Singh (ex IP) S. Gurdev Singh (ex IAS) and S. Manjit Singh ‘Calcutta’ were Vice-President for different spans. S. Kehar Singh, Bawa Sarup Singh, Maj. Gen. Mohinder Singh, Principal Bharpur Singh founder Registrar, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Ex. Chairman, Punjab School Education Board served the SES as Secretaries in the past.
The Managing Body of the Society comprise of nationally/ internationally known public men, scholars, judges, vice-chancellors, deans, professors, civil servants, armed-forces officers, transporters, engineers, doctors, farmers and prominent individuals who have carved special niches for themselves in social life. The Society holds its meetings regularly and its accounts are prepared/ audited timely.
